Joseph Latka (all pronouns) is a New York metropolitan based interdisciplinary and multimedia artist, composer, performer, and educator with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Music Technology, and is pursuing a PhD in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Latka’s creative and research practice contributes to the development of a formal Queer Creative Practice whose framework aims to facilitate how artists of all backgrounds and abilities can explore queerness and identity in their work. Latka’s personal creative practice fundamentally pulls from queer ecology and queer theory that examines the inherent queerness in nature to challenge socially constructed ways of being, and infuses elements of real-time interactivity, ecoacoustics, and bioart across disciplines. Latka’s creative and research practice also takes influence from Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening practice through The Center for Deep Listening, where he is currently pursuing a Deep Listening Certification. Latka also has over a decade of experience as a music educator, choral director, and musical theater director, and holds a Teaching Assistantship at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
