Be Longing is a short film that explores the concept of a living score within a multimedia environment. Though this film is not interactive and does not change, I was interested in exploring how I could compose using electroacoustic compositional techniques while reading a moving performance on film as though reading a score. I conceived of the film after working with choreographer Amanda Addotta and filmmaker Lorenzo Graziano, and directed the film in conversation with both participants. A significant part of this collaboration revolved around Addotta’s personal story, giving Addotta the space to explore past traumas as a queer woman coming to terms with her adoption from Columbia at six weeks old.
