Originating in the Spring of 2022, Formations is a multimedia sound art project that exists in multiple formats: video composition, live performance, and image series. The piece was inspired by research into the Schumann Resonances and their relationship to theta and alpha brain wave frequency ranges. Through my research, I discovered that life’s formation at the cellular level directly reflects the patterns of Earth’s electromagnetic forces. I consider the connection between these frequency ranges, Earth’s electromagnetic field, and brain and cellular activity to be a profound comment on queer identity as it relates to sound; specifically how identity develops, evolves, and adapts within Earth’s sonic environment.
